Ecommerce opportunities 'should be explored by media industry'
Ecommerce is something that should be explored by media owners keen to see the industry thrive and their businesses develop.
This is the suggestion of Sir Martin Sorrell, chief executive of WPP, who recently spoke at the Royal Television Society's Cambridge Convention, Marketing Week reports.
He suggested the industry in general - including television firms - needs to take notice of internet-connected platforms, which could include the likes of smartphones and similar gadgets.
The expert advises media owners to consolidate and provide a greater number of commercial opportunities to advertisers, which may include ecommerce and interactivity.
Social networks also hold potential for such brands and they should not be overlooked, the chief executive added.
His advice follows recent research from comScore, which found 83 per cent of consumers in France chose to browse products via ecommerce websites instead of traditional shopping methods in July, perhaps indicating the importance of using this choice.
