Domino's Pizza has announced that almost half of the deliveries it makes are now ordered via its ecommerce platform.
In an interim third-quarter statement, the company revealed that 46.6 per cent of sales made during the 13 weeks to September 25th were delivered to online customers.
This compares with online shopping accounting for 39.7 per cent of sales at Domino's in the corresponding period of 2010.
The firm's online sales for the quarter rose by 36.4 per cent from £33 million in 2010 to £45 million in 2011, with total online sales topping £130 million so far this year.
Domino's said it has observed "very strong growth in mobile ordering" in recent weeks, boosted by the launch of its new app for the Apple iPad last month.
"Orders taken on one of the many mobile platforms now account for 13 per cent of all ecommerce sales," the company said in the statement.
The firm, which opened 15 new stores during the 13-week period and also sponsored ITV's Red or Black game show, introduced the free iPad app to help people order their pizza "in a matter of swipes".
Designed to complement the company's existing services for iPhone and Android users, the app allows customers to quickly locate their nearest Domino's outlet and choose their meal by scrolling through a carousel-style menu.
Users can also pay using the app, with PayPal available as one of the options.
Speaking at the launch in August, sales and marketing director at Domino's Simon Wallis said the firm has achieved "fantastic sales to date through mobile channels".
He noted that the company's iPhone app generated £10 million in pizza sales in just eight months.
"We want to make sure that ordering a pizza is quick and easy for our customers however they do it and wherever they are," Mr Wallis added.
