Online retail searches continue to rise
Ecommerce businesses may have seen a surge in the number of visitors to their websites as a result of the rise in mobile search volumes during recent years.
New figures from the British Retail Consortium (BRC) revealed the number of retail queries typed into internet engines increased by 35 per cent between July and September.
The growth of retail search volumes among multi-channel companies was also on the rise, with a 26 per cent rise in the third quarter of 2011 compared with 71 per cent for pure ecommerce retailers.
Results showed that UK consumers are increasingly searching for overseas retailers, with this area displaying 78 per cent growth between April and June.
Stephen Robertson, director general of the BRC, said: "Mounting pressures on household budgets may be generating more online retail searches as people work harder to compare prices and track down value."
The organisation recently claimed the new RPI inflation figure threatens to increase business rates by £350 million for retailers next April, the equivalent of at least 16,000 jobs.
