Mobile security software sales grow after smartphone hacking rises
Online security measures are increasingly being carried out by smartphone users after the number of devices being hacked has increased significantly in recent times.
The Security Client Software report from market research firm Infonetics highlighted the requirement for users to take precautions against security threats on their handsets.
Its advice comes after almost three billion new smartphones and tablets were predicted to ship internationally between 2010 and 2015, increasing the likelihood of financially motivated hacking.
The report also revealed consumer-focused desktop and laptop client security remains the largest segment of the market, although growth in this area has been slow.
Jeff Wilson, principal analyst for security at Infonetics Research, said: "As more enterprises and consumers set out to protect their mobile devices, we expect the mobile security client market to take off."
Last month, Infonetics highlighted the strength of the security services market and its potential for growth despite the ongoing economic struggle.
