Ecommerce: eBay preparing for 'super Sunday'
Ecommerce retailer eBay has predicted a surge in online activity among individuals carrying out their Christmas shopping on Sunday December 4th.
Calling the day 'super Sunday', the online auction company estimated it will be this year's busiest day for internet shopping, with 30 gifts purchased every second.
Its predictions were made after retail industry firm IMRG forecast growth of 14 per cent in the online retail market during December despite the economic conditions.
Angus McCarey, retail director for eBay UK, predicted sales volumes will be around six-times the average Sunday in September on December 4th.
"We'll see people buying more for less with smaller gifts like mobile phone accessories and discounted high street fashion selling well on eBay this Christmas," he added.
Meanwhile, a new study from internet service provider TalkTalk highlighted the increasing popularity of ecommerce among consumers in the UK, with 96 per cent of people making at least one online purchase per year.
