Mobile broadband subscriptions expected to soar by 2016
Mobile broadband subscriptions are expected to continue on a path of aggressive growth by 2016, according to a new report carried out by Ericsson.
The telecoms technology firm has predicted the communication method will grow from 900 million users in 2011 to almost five billion in the coming years.
According to the company, mobile data traffic will experience a tenfold increase by 2016, which will be driven by the heightened use of video on mobile devices.
The figures represent a year-on-year growth of 60 per cent, while data consumed by smartphone users is surging and is expected to increase further.
Johan Wibergh, head of Ericsson business unit networks, said: "This report offers snapshots that, together, show how a growing number of people and businesses benefit from mobility, broadband and the cloud."
Earlier this month, Ericsson continued to enable content for national pay-per-view and on-demand video services for YOU On Demand in China.
