Cloud computing could be useful during the Olympics
Businesses which use cloud computing could benefit during the Olympic Games, as the technology will allow staff to work remotely.
Many will be able to avoid travelling on public transport during peak hours, when delays of 30 minutes or more are expected.
This week, a number of employees from government departments were asked to work remotely or travel to work on foot or bike, in a trial to see how businesses will cope with the games.
A Department for Transport spokesman said: "The government wants to deliver a great 2012 Olympic Games and keep London and the UK moving at the same time, that's why we are currently encouraging businesses and commuters to plan ahead and consider their travel options."
Workers have also been encouraged to vary their travel routes from home to work, re-schedule their working day, or work from home.
Businesses should however consult their internet service providers to make sure that their web access will not be restricted or compromised during the Games.
In city centres, internet use may be disrupted as a number of consumers try streaming the Olympic events simultaneously.
