Mobile video streaming 'shows continued growth'
Individuals using their smartphones to keep up to date with advanced video streaming technology could be interested in new figures.
A recent study from Allot Communications revealed that the popularity of the on-demand service increased by 93 per cent in the first half of 2011.
The feature, which allows consumers to watch content using their mobile phone, accounted for 39 per cent of overall mobile bandwidth.
As part of the study, technological analysts examined the current trends for smartphone users using data from Allot's international operator customers.
Rami Hadar, the organisation's president and chief executive, said: "[Over-the-top] applications continue to shift the balance of power from the operators to the content and app providers."
A recent article from the Montreal Gazette revealed that Canadian airlines have announced plans to experiment with new ways of allowing passengers to enjoy on-demand content during flights.
The plans come after Gogo president and chief executive Michael Small claimed allowing people to use their own devices would save money for airline companies.
