More companies could look into video streaming services for their websites after new research revealed that DVD sales are plummeting as people view content online.
A report published by the Digital Entertainment Group (DEG) revealed that DVD sales in the US have reduced by 19 per cent in the first quarter of this year, with high-street rentals down by 36 per cent.
This could mean that businesses look at introducing video content onto their website, reflecting the change in consumers' tastes and potentially attracting a wider audience.
Speaking about DEG's figures, Dave Holes - a DVD expert at Which? - explained that the ease of receiving on-demand content is behind the fall in sales.
"Not everyone is comfortable yet with streaming movies via the Net but, as more and more of us go down this route, the need to own a physical copy of films will seem increasingly bizarre," he said.
comScore's Video Metrix report - published last month - revealed that online video content viewing figures rose during March.
