Video streaming 'used by 178m US internet users in June'
Video streaming technologies were used by 178 American internet users in June, according to new research.
The latest comScore Video Metrix study revealed that 149 million unique individuals accessed content through Google-owned websites during the month.
As part of the study, researchers discovered that the average piece of video content was 5.4 minutes in length, with the typical advertisement lasting 0.4 minutes.
In addition, comScore recorded the highest ever number of streaming sessions in a single month at 16.2 billion, further highlighting the popularity of the technology.
Following the continuing success of YouTube, music video website VEVO and Yahoo!, Viacom and Microsoft were also named among the most popular.
Google-owned websites were also on the top spot earlier in May when they attracted more than 147 million visitors, with Facebook in fourth place and Microsoft sites in sixth.
During the same period, VEVO - which received over 60,000 viewers - took the second spot yet again.
