Domain name auction for pad.com to take place
An auction is currently underway to find a new owner for the domain name pad.com after the owners decided it was time to sell-up.
The address was first registered in 1990, but with the explosion of mobile devices and tablets, it is now one of the most sought-after domains in the technology world.
TheHostingNews.com reports that because of its many meanings, pad.com could be ideal for companies selling tablets, such as Apple, or even home developers.
A spokesman for Bido, the company that is organising the auction, told the news provider that whoever bids the most will be on to a winning combination that could see it successfully market its products.
"The one buyer who will be the quickest to realise the promising potential here is going to have for themselves a great win, and gain an unfair advantage over their competition, in whatever industry they happen to be in," the representative said.
Earlier this month, the International Corporation of Assigned Names and Numbers approved plans to introduce the .xxx suffix.
