Domain name registration for .CO addresses passes 1m
The one millionth domain name registration of a dot co address has taken place less than a year after the suffix was launched to the world, according to the .CO Internet registry.
Businesses, individuals and other organisations in 200 countries have registered a dot co domain name in the last year as people look to have leave their mark on the web.
Furthermore, around 50 per cent of the .CO domain registrations have come from North America, with Europe accounting for around a quarter of all sign-ups.
Juan Diego Calle, chief executive of .CO Internet, said that the figures represent a major achievement and thanked businesses and brands who have made it happen.
"To hit this milestone in less than a year is a great testament to the hard work and dedication of our team - and especially to the foresight of all of those who believed in .CO from the very beginning," he said.
Earlier this week, Joe Britton said that domain names featuring a keyword will become "profitable faster".
