Domain name represents 'important success factor' in building a website
Purchasing a good domain name that represents a business well is "an important success factor in building and launching consumer web services".
That is according to Fred Wilson, the vice-chairman and principal of Union Square Ventures, who told businessinsider.com that a strong domain name is "short and memorable" and does not need to mean anything.
Furthermore, he added that companies should be prepared to "pay up" for a good domain name as the benefits outweigh the costs.
Mr Wilson told the news provider that being catchy is all that matters when looking at domain name registration.
"Don't obsess about getting a name that is descriptive. It's great to be Kickstarter if you are building a funding platform for creative ideas but it is not required," he said.
"Do focus on a word that is short, catchy, and memorable."
Domain registration for .eu addresses have doubled in the last five years, it was reported last month.
