Companies and individuals will also want to purchase domain names, regardless of the state of the global economy, an expert has claimed.
Pierluigi Buccoli, chief executive officer of Domain Invest, said that this reason alone was enough to make the web address industry interesting, reports Domain Name News.
He made the comment while announcing the launch of his latest venture GamblingInvest.com, which brings together buyers and vendors of domain names related to gaming.
"We are giving a chance for people to bid both on premium never before sold URLs through to established domains that have already proven their worth. There is an opportunity here for everyone," he commented.
The firm is set to hold its first auction on September 12th 2009 during the Budapest Affiliate Conference.
Bidders will be able to purchase domain names by phoning in, attending in person or through online bids.
Among the notable domain name sales this month was BookHotels.com, which was purchased for $70,000 (£42,000).
