ICM Registry announces record price for .XXX domain
ICM registry has today (October 6th) revealed that its .XXX domain name has attracted the highest selling fee for a particular title since its recent launch.
Corbin Fisher, one of the world's leading gay production studios, has purchased Gay.xxx for $500,000 (£322,229), which is the fifth highest price for any title sold this year.
In addition, the payment now stands as one of the top 30 most expensive domain names sold in the last three years, according to industry news source DNJournal.com.
Announcing the news, Stuart Lawley - chief executive of ICM Registry - revealed that top-level titles usually sell for between one and ten per cent of their .com equivalent.
Jason Gibson, chief executive of Corbin Fisher and Liberty Media Holdings, said: "I'm thrilled to announce Liberty Media Holding's acquisition of the domain Gay.xxx."
The .XXX domain name was opened for applications with the launch of the Sunrise program, which allowed trademark owners to apply for the title.
