Sex.com entered into Guinness Book of Records as world's most expensive domain name
Domain name sex.com has been recognised by The Guinness Book of Records as the most expensive internet address domain name of all time, after it was traded for £8.2 million late last year.
The succinct domain name leads a table for most expensive addresses that also includes fund.com, porn.com and business.com which all changed hands for millions of dollars.
Talking to brandrepublic.com, Sedo's director of sales Kathy Nielsen said that it took a long while to make sure the address went into the right hands.
"The sale of Sex.com was truly a team effort. We spent about two years with the domain, establishing the relationship, researching and finding the right buyer and managing the domain’s transfer," she told the news provider.
According to most-expensive.net, toys.com was purchased by Toys R Us for $5.1 million (£3.14 million) two years ago as the company looked to increase the amount of traffic it receives to its website.
