TRA announces registration period for .emarat domain name
The United Arab Emirates Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) has announced plans to give companies access to an Arabic domain name.
A registration process for the top-level domain name .emarat will begin later this week (October 16th), giving trademark institutions the opportunity to branch out their businesses.
According to gulfnews.com, the .emarat market is still wide open when compared to other top-level domain names where businesses struggle to find suitable addresses.
Mohamad Nasser Al Ghanem, the director general of the TRA, told the news provider that this presents companies with a "unique opportunity" to expand their customer base.
"Ownership of such domains will secure intellectual property rights related to the name and opens vast opportunities for more companies to take advantage of the Arabic names for their brands," he said.
Last month VeriSign reported that the number of internet domain names in use has surged to over 196 million as more businesses rush to market their business.
