Welsh domain name 'could be in the pipeline'
An internet registry has appointed a new advisory group in a bid to support its proposals to create an online domain name for the country of Wales.
Non-profit organisation Nominet has begun initial discussions with the country's government over establishing a Welsh domain, reports the Western Mail.
The company, which is responsible for issuing domain names ending in .uk, could then lodge a bid with the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers if given the green light.
Alex Bowers, Nominet's director of legal and policy, highlighted the important role played by the Welsh government as part of the process.
"We have assembled an initial advisory group consisting of leading thinkers ... and who more importantly wish to see Wales have a domain name to position itself in the world," he added.
This news comes after representatives for footballer Wayne Rooney were involved in a legal case following the establishment of website waynerooney.co.uk by Wrexham resident Huw Mashall in 2002.
