BMW moves into ecommerce market in bid to drive sales
BMW has moved further into the ecommerce market by launching a page on trading website eBay.
The car manufacturer will sell parts and accessories - such as brake discs - on the BMW Direct page as it looks to branch out from its own BMW dealerships.
Furthermore, the company will be offering stock with free postage as well as a two-year warranty, making people feel safe that their products are going to work.
Carl Sanderson, general manager of aftersales development at BMW, said that though it will not be selling cars from the website, it will branch out into other products.
"Our initial approach is to test the demand and interest within the eBay environment with car accessories, car care products and the like," he said.
"We will move on to selling lifestyle gifts and mechanical service items in the future. Nevertheless, we do not intend to retail cars down this channel within this activity."
BMW manufactured 1.24 million cars last year, its highest amount since 2007.
