Brits spend £6.4 billion on credit cards every month online, report says
UK adults are spending around £6.4 billion on their credit cards over the internet every month, a new report has found.
The average online credit card spend is £192 per month and an astonishing 1.2 million people are putting £1,000 per month on plastic over the internet, according to Sainsbury's Finance.
In addition, around 25.4 million adults are now regularly making purchases online using credit cards, showing that ecommerce is still a significant way of making revenue for businesses.
Stuart McKeggie, head of cards at Sainsbury's Finance, said that only a few people have a credit card that they do not use online.
He said: "The growth of online shopping in such a short time is staggering. Our research found that only seven per cent of credit card holders do not use their cards online."
Ecommerce spending increased by 23 per cent in October compared to the same month in 2009 with a 17 per cent rise so far this year.
