E-commerce customers 'opt for deals with free shipping'
Free delivery and price comparison options for online shopping led to an increase in e-commerce sales on Cyber Monday (November 28th), figures have shown.
ComScore, the online watchdog for sales activity, released its statistics for the last weekend in November which suggested that shoppers were more likely to purchase gifts and products with the bonus of free shipping.
The research from ComScore showed that overall sales were up by 15 per cent compared with last year's Cyber weekend.
Furthermore, 64 per cent of all transactions were completed under a free delivery offer - a figure which suggested that retailers need to get their logistics secured so they can offset the margin hit.
ComScore mentioned that the latest figures will go some way to making e-shopping more popular than brick-and-mortar retailers for lower prices and ease of purchase.
Commercial director at comparethemarket.com Jeremy Moll commented that online shopping can be the best way to save money, as comparison services enable shoppers to find the best deal available.
