Internet company Yahoo has revealed that it will focus on e-commerce in a bid for revival.
The firm's current leader, ex-Paypal boss Scott Thompson, said that Yahoo would continue to promote its media content and email, but would create a division specifically dealing with online retail.
Mr Thompson said that e-commerce was critical to the future success of the company, and that the move was designed to make the company more focused on its consumers, rather than its staff.
"For Yahoo to win in our core business, every one of us must put our customers first," he said.
It is part of a significant restructuring development for the former search engine giant, which has been struggling to keep up with the likes of Google and Facebook.
From May onwards, Yahoo will be organised along three core divisions, namely a consumer branch focused on e-commerce and social networks, a regions division for advertising, and a technology division for handling Yahoo's infrastructure and platforms.
The announcement comes just days after the company announced it would have to axe 2,000 jobs, the largest staff cull in its 17-year history.
