E-commerce companies have been advised that they must make efforts to bring their services to consumers rather than solely expecting business to come to them.
Industry analysts have increasingly been talking up the sales potential of offering e-commerce services through social networking websites like Facebook, which is due to add around 20 storefront applications for online retailers to sell their products in the next two months.
Don Davis of the industry publication Internet Retailer has suggested that this approach could prove profitable, as consumers are increasingly prioritising convenience when selecting internet services.
As such, sellers should be looking to explore avenues such as banner advertisements, mobile functionality and social network partnerships in order to bring their content to consumers.
He said: "The consumer will use the web
in ways that are fun and convenient for her and any retailer that wants to sell to her [had] better be making offers where she is."
