Ecommerce businesses 'should conduct market research'
Businesses thinking about expanding their operations through ecommerce have been urged to carry out market research before they develop a strategy.
Andrew Corbett, membership services director for the UK IT Association, has urged businesses to conduct studies prior to taking action in a bid to gain knowledge about the growing sector.
Mr Corbett also suggested that companies should choose carefully when selecting a firm to assist them in the development of an ecommerce website in a bid to ensure an efficient job will be carried out.
He suggested checking their track record, take-up and references, as well as consulting accounts if possible due to the increased pressure placed on web developers in the current climate.
"You can look at certain things like what organisation the supplier is a member of, what accreditations they've got, what professional bodies they're in that might indicate they're a serious company," he added.
Mr Corbett's advice emerges after Internet Retailing revealed that Argos and Laura Ashley enjoyed ecommerce growth in the first half of the year.
