Ecommerce could rise after report says mobile money users set to double by 2013
More ecommerce sites look set to be created in the next two years after new research found that that the number of active mobile money users could double.
Juniper Research found that around 200 million people could be using mobile money services by 2013, a figure that currently stands at 100 million.
It also reported that around 40 per cent of the active users will be from the Africa and the Middle East regions by 2015 as different areas of the world catch on to ecommerce.
Online shopping figures could rise further because of the news, only days after comScore revealed that US internet spending figures rose by 11 per cent in the final quarter of last year.
American retailers took almost £27 million through their ecommerce sites during the three-month period.
Howard Wilcox, senior analyst at Juniper Research, added that mobile finances and banking in particular will see a boost.
"Our report reveals the sheer number of mobile money services, with more launches in the first eleven months of 2010 than in the whole of 2009," he said.
"However, there are still many developing countries without these services, plus we're seeing typically at least three services per country."
