Online businesses must make their ecommerce websites "crystal clear" to ensure that a customer does not have any fear or uncertainty while making a transaction.
That is according to Clodagh Murphy, the director of internet services company Eclipse, who said that people will not buy from a business again if they have a bad experience online.
A study by the Boston Consulting Group, published last October, found that the internet economy was worth £100 billion in the UK in 2009, representing 7.2 per cent of UK GDP and employing more than 250,000 people.
Ms Murphy added that simple things like telephone numbers and after-sale service are important not to be forgotten on an ecommerce site.
"Making your telephone number really obvious is important. If a customer gets to a certain point when they want to pick up the phone then it is there for them," she said.
"There is nothing worse than a customer getting to a point where they need to talk to you and not being able to find a telephone number."
