Ecommerce retailers 'must improve customer experience'
Ecommerce businesses looking to improve their operations should improve the overall customer experience for visitors to their website, it has been suggested.
Chris Webster, head of retail consulting and technology at Capgemini, has urged online retailers to take action to improve their services following disappointing sales in June.
Acknowledging ecommerce success at the start of 2011, Mr Webster claimed that it would be a difficult task for businesses to enjoy the same growth all year round.
His comments come after British shoppers spent £5.58 billion online in July, which represents growth of only five per cent as a result of a poor performance in the travel sector.
"Successful retailers will need to expand into multichannel and continue to improve customer experience throughout the online shopping processes," Mr Webster remarked.
This news comes after market research firm IDC Retail Insights advised ecommerce companies to begin preparations for increased internet traffic in the lead-up to Christmas.
