Ecommerce sales reach record level for John Lewis
Figures from John Lewis have revealed that the department store group's ecommerce operation is thriving in the lead-up to Christmas.
The company announced that sales from JohnLewis.com reached record levels last week, increasing by 42.2 per cent on the same period last year.
Overall, the firm saw sales total £133.1 million - the highest weekly trade it has ever recorded.
Lesley Ballantyne, director of operational development at John Lewis, said the group was "delighted" with the record sales figures across its website and 35 physical UK stores.
"They really demonstrate that our customers appreciate that they can shop at John Lewis comfortable in the knowledge that we offer an inspiring selection of Christmas merchandise," she commented.
Research firm ForeSee published a customer satisfaction index for the top online retailers this week, ranking JohnLewis.com in joint second place alongside Play.com.
Both websites received a satisfaction score of 80, with the John Lewis ecommerce site having gained 11 points since 2007.
