Ecommerce sites could be use as retailers facing tough conditions 'for quite some time'
Businesses may look into setting up an ecommerce website after an expert said that it will be a difficult period for retailers "for quite some time".
Richard Dodd, spokesman for the British Retail Consortium, said that people are "nervous about their major spending commitments", making it difficult for companies to make money.
Though he said things will "undoubtedly pick up", Mr Dodd believes that there may be some short-term pain for businesses in the retail sector.
"On the whole, people are reluctant to spend where they don't have to, it is clearly going to be the case for some time but for how long is difficult to say," he said.
"None of this is going to come as any surprise to retailers. We have been through some very difficult times over the last couple of years, including the recession [which] followed on from the banking crisis."
Figures published by comScore last week revealed that ecommerce spending increased by 12 per cent in the first quarter of this year.
