Ecommerce sites 'to continue selling on Christmas Day'
Ecommerce sites will continue to receive a high volume of customers on Christmas Day, a new report has predicted.
According to retail association IMRG, a forecasted £186.4 million will be spent on the day of celebration and a further £367.8 million worth of transactions will be made on Boxing Day.
David J Smith, chief marketing and communications officer at IMRG, said: "The amount of money consumers spend online every Christmas Day is continuing to show double-digit growth."
He added that most people using the internet on Christmas Day will purchase downloadable content for received gifts such as Kindles and MP3 players.
Further to IMRG's predictions, a report from the Centre for Retail Research recently suggested that there would be a 16.3 per cent rise in online sales this Christmas.
The analysis of sales trends also suggested that high street stores will fall significantly behind their online counterparts over the festive season.
In 2010, ecommerce rose 26 per cent year on year on Christmas Day, according to IMRG, and it is expected to continue to increase this year.
Figures from the study also suggested that high street sales would see a reduction in comparison.
