Quarter of Shanghai white collar workers shop online, research finds
Shanghai is the latest area found to be increasingly using ecommerce websites after a new survey revealed that a quarter of workers had used the internet to purchase groceries, drink and personal care products from supermarkets.
The figures, produced by consulting company DDMA and published on the Independent's website, show that 25 per cent of 150 white collar workers asked in Shanghai had used ecommerce websites as a way to buy goods.
Additionally, it found that reasons for shopping online were convenience, a lack of crowds and value for money, therefore leading more people into purchasing items online.
The news provider also reports that the United Kingdom has a higher share of retail sales made through the internet (10.5 per cent) than any other, with Shanghai (10.1 per cent) and the European Union (5.9 per cent) further behind.
It comes as figures from IMRG Capgemini revealed that ecommerce grew at its strongest rate for three years in the first quarter of 2011.
