Smartphone sales 'will see significant rise in 2012'
Ecommerce could see a significant boost as Deloitte has predicted more tablets and smartphones will be sold this year.
The administration and financial services company claimed that strong competition will continue to reduce the prices of consumer technologies such as tablets and smartphones, and lead to widespread use of these devices.
Jolyon Barker, global lead for Deloitte's technology, media and telecommunications industry, suggested that five million tablets will be sold in the coming 12 months, generating around £1.3 billion in revenue for manufacturers.
"The tablet explosion has shown little sign of slowing down since hitting the market in 2010 and is set to take the mantle of the most rapid multiple market penetration in history," he added.
Anurag Wadehra, chief marketing officer for ecommerce company Baynote, recently commented that online shopping via mobile platforms will be the biggest market in 2012 and could become larger than any other shopping channel.
