UK consumers 'more comfortable than ever' with ecommerce
Online shopping has become an increasingly natural activity for UK consumers, according to digital marketing provider Kenshoo's latest report.
The 2011 retail study is the first the company has produced that focuses solely on the UK and reveals a number of statistics about the region's growing ecommerce market.
It found that UK retailers generated a strong return on advertising despite high competition in the market, picking up an average return of £13.21 on ad spend.
In addition, online stores generated 74 per cent more revenue through ecommerce during the week before Christmas than they did last year.
Chris Ward, managing director of Europe for Kenshoo, said consumers in Britain are shopping less often but more discerningly.
"Retailers also appeared more comfortable with search advertising, generating superior conversion rates with better quality ads," he added.
Dr Andrew Spence, an economic adviser to PricewaterhouseCoopers, recently told Declan Curry in a BBC On The Money podcast that he expects ecommerce to continue to be a growth market for the retail industry.
