US ecommerce spending increases in May by nearly 5%
Ecommerce spending on airlines increased in the US last month, as online expenditure increased by nearly five per cent.
The SpendingPulse US retail sector report, published yesterday (June 2nd), revealed that spending increased by 4.7 per cent - the eighth consecutive month of positive gains.
Furthermore, the US clothing sector saw sales increase by 5.9 per cent in May, compared to the same time last year as more people ventured online to do their spending.
Michael McNamara, vice-president, research and analysis for MasterCard Advisors SpendingPulse, said that every sub category of restaurants showed growth, too.
"Because the late Easter holiday boosted April's year-over-year comparisons in some sectors, the May growth rates can look flattened by comparison, especially in apparel, luxury, and groceries where the growth rates were only about half what they were in April," he said.
La Senza launched a new ecommerce website in Australia earlier this week as it looks to take advantage of a growing market.
