Waitrose expects its ecommerce operations to be worth £100m in future
Waitrose expects ecommerce sales to reach £100 million within 18 months, it has been reported.
According to Reuters, the supermarket hopes that a £10 million revamp of its online presence will encourage sales.
The news provider reports that it is hoping online sales to grow by 40 to 60 per cent in the next several years, with performance boosted by its expansion in London.
Managing director Mark Price told Reuters at the Retail Week Conference that Waitrose.com should be able to build a successful business in the next several years.
"For the foreseeable future, I'd expect to be growing at 40 per cent, 50 per cent, 60 per cent a year," he said.
Commenting on the decision to end its deal with Ocado for delivery of online orders, Mr Price added: "The market is growing fast enough to sustain both their demand for growth and our demand for growth."
The news comes as Waitrose owner John Lewis looks at expanding its own online home delivery to 27 countries, including the US and Australia.
