Businesses looking to increase their presence online could target the Chinese market after a new report published this morning (June 13th) said that the country's consumers are web-savvy.
The American Chamber of Commerce in Shanghai reported that China will have enough purchasing power to buy 14 per cent of the world's goods in 2015, while the country is also expected to become the world's second-largest consumer market in the same year.
Furthermore, the majority of businesses questioned in China said that they would be developing ecommerce websites in the future, reports the Economic Times.
Ken Newell, the president of PepsiCo China, told the news provider that people are spending more to ensure that they obtain quality products.
The report added that companies have a lot to consider: "These changes could affect purchasing behaviours in many ways including product innovation, packaging sizes, packaging, design, access and delivery."
Online shopping provides an opportunity to level the playing field for retailers, according to Matt Piner of Verdict, speaking last week.
