Hosted IT 'can allow firms to focus on making money'
Firms could find that using software as a service (SaaS) and other hosted IT solutions could enable them to focus on the business side of their company.
This is the opinion of Piers Linney, executive director of Outsourcery, who claimed that many companies end up spending too much of their energy on IT.
He cited the example of one of his firm's clients, which he said was using up resources and time looking at data backup, document servers and BlackBerrys.
"We did it all for them so they could then focus on their business … Your business is about focusing on your business, not IT," Mr Linney commented.
Using SaaS and other virtualisation technology could reduce the amount of work required by an IT department and allow a company to focus on the business, rather than infrastructure.
Hosted IT solutions could help firms become more efficient and effective, thereby increasing their ability to make money, he said.
Last month, market research commissioned by Microsoft and conducted by Harris found that almost half of IT professionals will be concentrating on boosting business efficiency.
