Three-quarters of mobile broadband providers offer speeds of above 1 Mbps
Mobile broadband users who utilise the technology to check emails and important data from remote working locations could be interested in the findings from a recent study.
The Second Quarter 2011 State of the Internet report from Akamai Technologies has revealed that approximately three-quarters of service providers have an average connection speed above 1 Mbps.
Researchers from the leading cloud platform service company highlighted the fastest global mobile broadband speed as 23.4 Mbps, with the slowest connection coming in at 1.2 Mbps across the 108 surveyed organisations.
Additionally, analysts discovered one provider in South Africa failed to record an average peak connection speed about 2 Mbps during the second quarter of this year.
This news comes after research carried out by consumer watchdog Ofcom published its first research into the UK's mobile broadband performance, which highlighted that 17 per cent of households use the service to gain access to online content.
Conducted in partnership with broadband monitoring specialist Epitiro, the study found the average download speed was 1.5 Mbit/s, with webpages taking an average of 8.5 seconds to download.
