Small and medium businesses could look at the Olympics as a way of marketing their business after the organising committee announced plans to auction online space.
Companies will be able to begin bidding from next month so that they can have their share of advertising space.
Around one billion visits are expected on the 2012 Games website during the events, taking place across the UK between July and August next year.
Chris Townsend, Locog's commercial director, explained that this is the first time that an Olympics has decided to sell its digital assets "in this way".
"We are already seeing the benefits of undertaking a process in this way with our outdoor advertising auction," he said.
"Our Games-time websites are going to be the go-to source for all Olympic and Paralympic information and there are fantastic opportunities for our sponsors to be part of this."
Earlier this month, a number of brands, including British Airways, announced that they are about to commence their advertising campaigns surrounding the London Olympics.
