Google dominates paid US search engine revenues market, new figures show
Companies could be looking to paid search engine advertising as well as search engine optimisation techniques after new figures revealed that Google's advertising share increased last year.
The firm's share of US online search revenues grew to 71.4 per cent in 2010, compared to 70.5 per cent the year before, according to eMarketer.
Microsoft's Bing search engine also increased its share of the US search advertising market, but only to 10.2 per cent as Google is set to continue to take more of the share in the next year.
David Hallerman, principal analyst at eMarketer, said that Google is the place to go to if businesses are looking to market through search engines.
"The US paid search market is more and more a two-company game," he said.
"And yet there's no real competition. Even though Bing is gaining revenue, Google's share is still rising as the combined revenues at Microsoft and Yahoo! continue to fall."
Jake Hird, of Econsultancy, said last week that localised search engine optimisation could be the best way to market a website in the future.
