Google is unlikely to benefit by allowing advertising hosted by social media sites, according to a marketing expert.
Andrew Girdwood, head of strategy at bigmouthmedia, said it is unlikely that Google will have adverts from social networks frequently placed on its pages as it would "weaken" the company's proposition.
Last November, it was announced that Google was carrying adverts from Twitter's network, integrating promoted tweets into its Realtime search engine but not placing them in its main search engine.
The company's move comes as social network advertising spending it set to rise from £130 million in 2011 to £275 million in 2012.
Mr Girdwood added that it is very unlikely to that will go any further into Google's search engine.
He said: "But if you can imagine a future where ads from social platforms routinely appeared on Google pages then I imagine that would certainly weaken Google's proposition and I'd be very surprised if they allowed it."
