Online marketing: Internet advertising soars in first half of 2011
Businesses hoping to improve their online marketing strategy could be influenced to focus more on internet advertising following the release of recent figures.
According to new data, the increasingly popular type of promotion soared by 13.5 per cent to £2.26 billion during the first half of this year, with the UK's wider sector expected to experience just 1.4 per cent growth.
Spending on internet advertising as part of online marketing campaigns has surpassed expectations to reach a market share of 27 per cent, excluding mobile expenditure.
The figures, collated by the Internet Advertising Bureau (IAB) in conjunction with PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) and WARC, reflect the increasing online audience and faster broadband.
Anna Bartz, strategy manager at PwC, said: "With direct response advertising also thriving in the current climate, online offers a potent combination for all marketers, and the indications are that double-digit growth will continue in the UK."
This news comes after the IAB revealed that mobile now makes up ten per cent of ecommerce website visits, but sales conversion levels remain higher by PC users.
