Six out of ten firms planning to invest in social networking in 2011
Nearly six out of ten businesses are planning to invest money in their presence on social networking websites over the coming year as they look to market their brand further through the internet.
That is according to figures published by Econsultancy and cScape, which found that a further 32 per cent are using an internal social networking platform to increase employee communication.
Furthermore, just over half of the 1,000 businesses questioned are using social networking to help it improve standards of customer service.
Linus Gregoriadis, research director at Econsultancy, said that early scepticism about the use of social networking has been replaced by acknowledgement that it represents an opportunity for businesses.
"Paranoia about employee use of social networks and potential damage to their brands is being replaced by an understanding that in-company social networking can help communication and collaboration in a way which ultimately benefits the customer and the company," he said.
Georgina Christian, of Mail Blaze, said last week that firms could turn to email as a way of marketing their business on the internet.
