Businesses looking to market their website could add text messaging to its repertoire after new figures show that SMS revenues will increase in the next four years.
Informa Telecoms & Media predicts that $136.9 billion (£85.79 billion) will be generated in revenues in 2015, up from $105.5 billion in 2010.
Furthermore, the number of text messages sent could increase to 8.7 trillion messages in four years, compared to five trillion messages in 2010, as more firms target their potential customers.
Pamela Clark-Dickson, a senior analyst at Informa and author of the report, said that businesses can reach out to everyone through SMS, including those without a smartphone.
"The fact that SMS is the universal data communications channel on the mobile device is also a huge benefit for businesses and government departments in developed markets and, more recently, for social networks like Facebook and Twitter," she said.
Earlier this week, ABI said that news providers and music companies should revenues generated through mobile marketing are set to rise to £3.76 billion by 2013.
