Travelling companies could further their online marketing by turning to social media, including Twitter and apps, according to a industry firm.
Mark Caswell, editor of businesstraveller.com, said that more business travellers are using their mobile phones to make bookings, suggesting that firms can take advantage by ensuring they have an ecommerce site.
Travel market research firm PhoCusWright found in a survey this week that social media will continue to become more important as travellers look for reviews and personal recommendations before making decisions.
In addition, three out of four active travellers now use a mobile device while travelling, making it just as important that travelling firms take advantage of a change in technology.
Mr Caswell added that the website he edits has seen an increase in the number of people viewing through a mobile phone.
He said: "We're seeing that more and more people are using their mobile devices to access our website, and obviously the follow-on from that is that as people are more comfortable with using the internet on their mobile phone they're then going to be making bookings and online purchases in the same manner."
