IBM provides managed hosting for Scottish council in new data centre
IBM has finished the construction of a new government data centre in Scotland with the aims of reducing energy use and cutting costs.
Dumfries and Galloway Council will move its computing infrastructure to the building to give it a scalable solution that ensures it only pays for what it uses, reports datacenterdynamics.com.
Furthermore, energy reduction of 20-30 per cent could be seen as it relocates its servers to the 1,000-square-foot unit, saving the council around £20,000 per year.
Graeme Mcllorum, technology services manager at the council, told the news provider that there will be many benefits for not only the authority itself, but the people it looks after.
"In addition to a number of administrative applications, the data centre also has to run our call centre and other critical council systems, providing care to vulnerable people around the clock, as we upgraded the data centre," he said.
IBM employs nearly 400,000 people worldwide, offering technology services that include infrastructures and hosting.
