Microsoft launches collaboration of programs in the cloud through Office 365
Microsoft will increase its software as a service (SaaS) offerings by launching Office 365, a collection of programs available in the cloud to businesses of every size.
The application will be a collaboration of the firm's desktop publishing software available in the cloud, meaning those using Office 365 will not need any facilities on site to host it.
Office, SharePoint Online, Exchange Online and Lync Online will be available under the one banner and beta testing of the product has already begun with a full launch date expected to be late next year.
Kurt DelBene, the president of the Office division at Microsoft, said that even the smallest of firms will be able to have access to the latest technology.
"With Office 365, your local bakery can get enterprise-calibre software and services for the first time, while a multinational pharmaceutical company can reduce costs and more easily stay current with the latest innovations," he said
"People can focus on their business, while we and our partners take care of the technology."
The company launched 2010 versions of SharePoint and Office earlier this year.
