Computing giant Microsoft is looking to make the latest version of its SharePoint software one of the top enterprise content management (ECM) tools, an expert has claimed.
Duncan Williams, sales and marketing director at business and technical consultancy firm Deltascheme, said Microsoft is working on the architecture of the software.
He said that the changes to the ECM side of SharePoint 2010 would make it easier for firms to manage their records and documents.
"On the ECM side they are working to ensure that SharePoint is increasingly an industry strength enterprise content management tool," Mr Williams commented.
He added that the firm would probably take open standards and alter them slightly to make their own, but he added that Microsoft was starting to move towards an industry standard.
Microsoft originally stated that Office 2010 beta would be released in July and would not feature SharePoint.
However, John Fontana said in an article for NetworkWorld.com that an invitation-only launch of SharePoint Server 2010's beta test will take place in the same month.
