Anti-virus could be used as expert warns of cybercriminal activity
Small and medium-sized businesses are being warned that cybercriminals are continuing to fine-tune their targets to include social media and mobile devices.
Dan Nadir, senior director of consumer products at Norton, said that online criminals are basing their attacks on the latest trends and that firms need to be wary.
This could see businesses use anti-virus software in their email and websites to help fend off possible attacks.
Experian Hitwise reported last week that social media became the single biggest online activity in the UK in January, overtaking entertainment.
Mr Nadir added that social networking websites such as Twitter, along with mobile phones, are now among top targets for cybercriminals.
"Additionally, the small screen of a mobile device, and the fact that many sites reformat content to make it mobile-friendly, makes it more difficult for the average user to tell the difference between a legitimate and a fake site," he said.
