Businesses encouraging the use of social networking must ensure their security settings are up-to-date after a leading protection firm said that users are finding it "difficult to determine" what is dodgy and what is not.
That is according to Con Mallon, director of regional product marketing at Norton, who said that it is becoming more difficult to decide which links are genuine and which could lead to viruses.
With social networking playing an increasingly important part in marketing plans in businesses, firms could look at bolstering their security with anti-virus and anti-spam software.
Around 78 per cent of consumers are using social media websites to keep in touch with their friends, according to research published by Mintel this month.
Mr Mallon believes that though people have become wiser to what can be clicked on.
"I think some of the education we've done over the last number of years is helping people and, again, I think when they've been reading emails they're kind of aware of looking out for dodgy looking attachments or spelling or grammar mistakes that kind of give the game away," he added.
